This is just precious.
Besides being a consistently amazing convention (where you could easily find great real-life examples of most of the characters in my book), DEFCON is well known as neutral ground where all parties interested in computers, communications, and other electronic security issues can meet and share ideas openly.
The key word, of course, is openly. A popular game at DEFCON has always been “Spot the Undercover Federal Agent,” and it’s always won quickly, publicly, and embarassingly for the would-be moles. This year, however, the game changed a bit, and it’s pretty fun to watch.
Undercover reporter Michelle Madigan (Associate Producer of NBC Dateline) got a little more than she bargained for when she tried to sneak in to DEFCON 2007 with hidden cameras to get someone to confess to a felony.
