In the biggest loss ever of personal data in the United Kingdom, two HMRC computer discs that held the private information of 25 million people have gone missing.
Widespread identity theft is obviously the greatest worry in the aftermath of an incident like this. The government is assuring citizens that there’s not yet any evidence of criminal activity associated with the loss, but even they admit that this isn’t much of an assurance.
